Mtama District Council, Vacancies – July 2025

Mtama District Council, officially known as Lindi District Council, administers the district of Mtama in Tanzania’s Lindi Region. Covering approximately 5,975 km², it borders the Indian Ocean to the east and had a population of about 194,143 as of the 2012 census. The council’s administrative headquarters is in the town and ward of Mtama. Under the leadership of regional and national education authorities, Mtama has seen transformative investment in educational infrastructure. In March 2025, the council received TZS 7.8 billion from President Samia Suluhu Hassan to build five new schools along with classrooms and sanitation facilities. These projects aim to reduce the burden on students who had to travel long distances for schooling. In September 2024, the council’s Planning Department conducted field visits to several ongoing projects, including construction sites at boys’ secondary schools, village health centres, and sanitary facilities at primary schools across the district. These visits reflect the council’s commitment to ensuring timely and effective implementation of community development initiatives. The district’s Water Department oversees the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of water supply schemes—including rainwater harvesting, boreholes, gravity-fed systems, and spring protection. Local governance thrives on oversight and accountability. In February 2024, the council’s Finance, Administration & Planning Committee assessed public facilities—including council offices, housing, and leaseholds—to improve revenue collection and handling of assets. Mtama achieved a “clean audit” (hati safi) from the Regional Secretariat for five consecutive years as of June 2025 indicating strong financial management and integrity.
