FINCA Microfinance Bank Limited is a financial institution focused on providing financial services to low-income people in Tanzania. Founded in 1998 with the establishment of the first Village Bank in Mwanza, FINCA has been at the forefront of promoting financial inclusion by providing loans, savings services, and money transfers to small entrepreneurs and small businesses. In January 2013, FINCA obtained a license from the Bank of Tanzania to become the first microfinance institution in the country to accept deposits from the public, a move that enabled more people, especially from rural areas, to enter the formal financial system. Currently, FINCA serves over 730,000 customers through a network of over 20 branches and 140 agents across the country. Over 56 percent of its customers use agent services, while 23 percent access financial services via mobile phones. Its services include microfinance, personal loans, youth/education loans, savings, insurance, agency banking, and mobile banking. FINCA has invested in modern technology such as Digital Field Automation (DFA), which enables customers to open savings accounts within five minutes using special tablets. This approach has improved access to financial services for low-income people and remote areas. Overall, FINCA Microfinance Bank Limited contributes significantly to poverty reduction and improving the lives of Tanzanians by providing them with financial services that enable small business growth and economic development.
