Kigamboni Municipal Council is one of the five municipalities that make up Dar es Salaam Region in Tanzania. It was officially established in 2016 after being separated from Temeke Municipality, with the aim of enhancing service delivery and promoting equitable development in the rapidly growing Kigamboni area. The council’s headquarters are located in Kibada Ward, which serves as the administrative and commercial center of the municipality. Kigamboni covers a total area of about 577 square kilometers, bordered by the Indian Ocean to the east and Temeke Municipality to the west. It is strategically located, making it one of the most promising areas for investment, tourism, and residential development in the region. The area is connected to the Dar es Salaam city center through the Nyerere Bridge, which has greatly improved accessibility and encouraged urban expansion. Administratively, the council is divided into several wards and villages, each managed under the local government system to ensure community participation in governance. The economy of Kigamboni is diverse, with major activities including fishing, small-scale farming, trade, and construction. Kigamboni Municipal Council is committed to improving social services such as education, health, water supply, and waste management. The council also emphasizes environmental conservation, sustainable urban planning, and infrastructure development to support its growing population. Through its vision of becoming a modern, sustainable, and inclusive city, Kigamboni continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of Dar es Salaam as a leading economic and coastal hub in Tanzania.
