The Public Service Recruitment Secretariat (PSRS) is a government agency with the status of an Independent Department established specifically to coordinate and facilitate the recruitment process in the Public Service. PSRS was established in accordance with the Public Service Act No. 8 of 2002, which was amended by Act No. 18 of 2007, section 29(1). The main objective of PSRS is to ensure that recruitment in the Public Service is conducted in a transparent, fair, and professional manner. This Secretariat is responsible for coordinating all recruitment processes, including advertising job vacancies, receiving applications, conducting screening of applicants, and participating in the interview of suitable candidates. These measures aim to enhance the efficiency of the recruitment process and ensure that vacancies are filled by people with the required qualifications. PSRS also aims to reduce the challenges of bias and bureaucracy in the recruitment process by implementing policies and procedures that are consistent with the principles of good governance. This body provides equal opportunities to all applicants with the required qualifications, while prioritizing the principles of gender equality and the inclusion of special groups in society. In addition to coordinating the recruitment process, PSRS ensures that selected candidates meet the requirements of the Public Service by providing them with relevant information on laws, procedures, and work ethics. This aims to enhance performance standards in the public sector and ensure the delivery of quality services to citizens. Overall, PSRS is focused on enhancing the accountability and effectiveness of the Public Service, representing a key instrument in supporting social and economic development in Tanzania.
