The Tanzania Private Sector Federation (TPSF), formerly known as the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation, serves as the apex body representing private sector organizations and businesses in Tanzania. Established in 1998 with 33 members, TPSF has expanded to over 400 direct members, encompassing business associations and private corporations that collectively represent more than six million businesses across Tanzania and Zanzibar. TPSF plays a pivotal role in advocating for private sector-led economic and social development. It acts as a unified voice for the private sector, engaging in policy dialogue with the government to create a conducive business environment. The organization collaborates with various stakeholders to influence policy formulation and review, aiming to enhance the competitiveness of Tanzania’s economy. TPSF has undertaken significant reforms to increase inclusivity and representation within its structure. In November 2024, the organization amended its constitution to expand sector clusters from 14 to 25, ensuring broader representation of various economic sectors, including startups, women, youth, and technology. This move aims to strengthen advocacy efforts and ensure that all sectors have a voice in national economic decisions. TPSF also organizes the annual Tanzania Private Sector Week (TPSW), a flagship event that brings together over 1,000 business leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the private sector’s role in economic growth and to strategize for the future. Through its initiatives, TPSF continues to foster collaboration between the private sector and the government, aiming to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and contribute to the nation’s economic development.
